USC earns commitment from productive 2023 defensive lineman
Make that two from the trenches this week for the Trojans.
After earning the commitment from a massive offensive tackle prospect earlier in the week, USC picked up a commitment from 3-star defensive lineman Grant Buckey on Wednesday. Buckey was just in town on an official visit and evidently loved what USC had to offer. He chose the Trojans over interest from Cal and UCLA, among others.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound lineman plays his high school ball for Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty. As a junior last fall, he was a disruptive force along the line of scrimmage, credited with 51 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and three forced fumbles.
He’s rated as a 3-star in the industry-generated 247 Composite and ranked as the 63rd defensive lineman in his class, the 41st prospect from the state of California, and the 522nd overall prospect in the country. Buckey also competes in shot put and discus.
His pledge brings USC’s 2023 class—which ranks as the 12th-best in the country—to nine known commitments now. You can view Buckey’s highlight tape below, via Hudl:
