USC commits Makai Lemon, Malachi Nelson have nights to remember in Los Alamitos win
In a 69-49 Los Alamitos win over Santa Margarita Thursday night, USC commits Malachi Nelson and Makai Lemon had nights to remember.
First, there was Lemon, the 4-star wideout who has made highlight play after highlight play to begin his senior season. According to The O.C. Register’s Dan Albano, Lemon finished with 11 catches for 184 yards and a 96-yard kickoff return touchdown. Lemon took a short slant from Nelson and outran the entire Santa Margarita secondary.
The two big plays came in short succession. There was the kickoff return, with just over 10 minutes to play in the second quarter, that tied the game.

And then there was the explosive reception that put the Griffins on top.

As for Nelson, the 5-star quarterback reportedly operated from an uptempo attack for Los Alamitos for the first time this season and, in passing for 203 yards, became the school’s all-time passing leader.
The two are headliners in a top-15 recruiting class during the 2023 cycle. Lemon is gunning for that fifth star.
