USC closed hard in this one and Lincoln Riley was ultimately able to seal the deal.

Earlier this week, USC earned a major commitment from San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln linebacker David Peevy, who chose the Trojans over a final three that also included Oregon and Washington.

In his public commitment ceremony, Peevy picked up an Oregon had first, then tossed it aside and revealed a Trojans shirt under his jacket.

“It was a lot of things with USC,” Peevy told 247Sports’ Greg Biggins. “I like their coaching staff and they have been on me and consistent since Day 1. They have always treated me and my mom with respect and that meant a lot to me.”

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Peevy is also a track star for his high school and projects as an edge type in Alex Grinch’s defense. He’s an athletic pass-rusher with a background as a safety and has seen his stock steadily rise this season.

Peevy rates as a 3-star prospect in the industry-generated 247 Composite, but the folks at 247Sports are much higher on him than the consensus. He’s a 4-star in the Top247 and the 33rd-ranked edge prospect in his class.

As a junior last fall, Peevy had 37 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three sacks. His verbal pledge gives USC its 20th known commitment for the 2023 class. You can see his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
