USC guard Tre White has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

The news came as a major shock on Wednesday, as White was poised to be a starter and significant contributor during the 2023-24 season. The 6-foot-7 guard was one of the best first-year players in the Pac-12 last season. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

White appeared in every game for the Trojans as a true freshman during the 2022-23 campaign, and he drew starts in 29 of those 33 appearances. He was fourth on the team in minutes, playing over 26 a night. He was fifth on the team in scoring, putting in 9.0 points a game to go with 5.1 rebounds and a dime. White shot 47% from the field.

For his efforts, White earned a spot on the Pac-12’s All-Freshman Team.

Reese Dixon-Waters has transferred out of USC this offseason. Drew Peterson has left the program as well.  Saturday morning, 4-star 2023 combo guard Silas Demary Jr. requested a release from the NLI he signed with USC.

Boogie Ellis will be back and he’ll be joined by Isaiah Collier, the No. 1 overall 2023 recruit. There’s a spot open in the USC backcourt and it’s hard not to link all of the recent movement — White’s departure included — to the possibility of Bronny James’ arrival.

The Trojans have been heavily linked to the son of NBA star LeBron James. Bronny is a 4-star 2023 prospect and the 34th-ranked recruit in the class. He has multiple Crystal Ball predictions logged for him to pick USC in his recruitment. Should that come to pass, USC could feasibly trot out three-guard lineups next season that include Collier, Ellis, and James.
