Paul Finebaum lists Pac-12 team among threats to Georgia dynasty in 2023
Paul Finebaum is involved with a big week as SEC Media Days are ongoing in Nashville. One of the topics he covered included potential threats to Georgia’s dynasty and quest for a 3rd straight national championship.
Appearing on “First Take,” Finebaum believes there is a handful of teams that could threaten the Bulldogs. “There are a couple of teams that have a possibility or a chance at (beating Georgia),” said Finebaum before listing Alabama and Ohio State.
However, he did label one Pac-12 team as “a wild card” should they advance to the College Football Playoff and a showdown with Georgia. That team is Lincoln Riley’s USC program with Heisman winner Caleb Williams back under center.
“Outside (of the SEC)… If you’re looking for a wild card, certainly Southern Cal with Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, but, after having said all that, I do believe Georgia is going to do what no one else has done,” Finebaum explained.
USC’s outlook
The Trojans do return Caleb Williams and a number of offensive pieces, but the schedule is far from easy, particularly on the back half of the schedule. The Trojans must travel to face Notre Dame on Oct. 14 and Oregon on Nov. 11 to go with late-season home games against Utah and Washington.
The Pac-12 is shaping up to be particularly deep this year, and USC will need to fix its defensive woes if there is hope to run through the league and get into the Playoff.
