News broke on Sunday that former Georgia DL Bear Alexander will be playing for USC in 2023. On3 Sports’ J.D. PicKell offered some insight into the transfer addition for the Trojans.

Alexander played in 12 games for Georgia during the 2022 season. He also recorded 9 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. Alexander hit the transfer portal earlier in April before landing on the Trojans as his transfer destination.

PicKell believes that adding Alexander to the USC defense addresses a big need on that side of the ball for Lincoln Riley.

“Think about the weaknesses of USC. On the offensive side you don’t find a lot of them. You have Caleb Williams playing quarterback, a bunch of ballers at receiver, some that I think are chomping at the bit to prove themselves on the national stage. Look to the defensive side, you don’t see the same type of stock-cover protocol on that side. Look at the Utah game, couldn’t stop anybody. Look at the Tulane game, the defensive line play was abysmal.”

In the loss to Utah the Trojans allowed 223 yards rushing. USC then allowed Tulane to finish the Cotton Bowl with 305 yards rushing. If Alexander pans out, he could be a great addition to the USC defensive line.

Alexander is just one player, but he could fill a hole at USC.
