Lincoln Riley shares injury update on USC LBs Mason Cobb, Eric Gentry
Lincoln Riley on Thursday provided the latest on USC linebackers Mason Cobb and Eric Gentry.
Neither Cobb nor Gentry played in the Trojans’ last game against Nevada, a 66-14 win. Cobb, who made 6 tackles against San Jose State in the season opener, projects to be a key transfer portal addition, a 2nd-team All-Big 12 performer with Oklahoma State with 96 tackles and 13.0 tackles for a loss in 2022. Gentry, meanwhile, was the Trojans’ 3rd-leading tackler a season ago (71) and was credited with 2 tackles in Week 0.
The prognosis for both players is good for the Trojans’ game against Stanford on Saturday, Riley said during his media availability on Thursday.
“We’re hopeful. I would honestly, right now, today, put them both in the ‘questionable’ world,” Riley said. “I don’t know that either one of them is a green light, for sure gonna go, but I couldn’t say that either one of them doesn’t have a chance, either. They’ve both progressed well, and today will probably tell a lot of the tale if they’re able to keep that progression going, and feel like that they’re going to be ready to go out there and make plays.”
Kickoff between the Trojans and Cardinal is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on FOX.
