Lincoln Riley says Caleb Williams is 'one of the best players in the country' after UCLA win
Caleb Williams was absolutely wonderful in USC’s 48-45 win over UCLA at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.
The second-year quarterback looked like the best player on the field as he threw for a career-high 470 yards and made timely play after timely play after timely play. He had a number of throws only a handful of players in the country would even attempt, let alone convert. And after the game, coach Lincoln Riley said what anyone who watched the back-and-forth battle for the victory bell thought.
“He’s been one of the best players in the country this season,” Riley told reporters.

Williams has been making a push for the title of best in the country in recent weeks. He entered Saturday’s contest with four consecutive games of five total touchdowns. Against Utah, he had 438 yards of offense. Against Arizona, he had 425 yards of offense. Against Cal, he had 398. In a blowout of Colorado, he had 264. Against the Bruins, he had 502 yards.
This season, Williams has 40 total touchdowns and three turnovers in 10 games. And if you’re looking for Heisman moments, there have been no shortage of those either.

USC secured its spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game with a win, officially completing the one-year turnaround from 4-8 to championship contender.
FOX’s Joel Klatt said during the game broadcast there may not be a more valuable player in the country than Williams, and it’s growing increasingly harder to argue that point.
