Lincoln Riley comments on possibility of bringing in transfer QB following season
Lincoln Riley commented on the possibility of bringing in a transfer quarterback at the end of the 2023 season on Thursday.
Of course, reigning Heisman winner Caleb Williams is very likely to be off to the NFL after this season. The star QB is a surefire top-5 pick in the upcoming draft.
Lincoln Riley was asked about whether USC will seek a QB in the transfer portal, since Riley doesn’t have a QB in the upcoming recruiting class.
“There’s still a lot to transpire,” Riley said.

Here’s his entire response:
“Lot of things to transpire there. I don’t know if I’m in a position to say yes, we will go after a portal quarterback. And I don’t know if I’m in a position to say ‘no we won’t,’ either. There’s a lot left to transpire. We’ve got a guy in our room that’s going to have to make a decision about whether he wants to enter the draft or not. We have a couple quarterbacks in our room that have developed in our program but you also know at this day and age, especially at that position, you never can assume anything. There’s 10 different combinations of what can happen here.”
The guys in the room behind Williams that Riley was referring to are Malachi Nelson and sophomore Miller Moss, a 4-star from the Class of 2021.
For now, it appears Riley isn’t making any decisions publicly definitive until Williams makes his.
