Jordan Addison and Mario Williams both practiced for USC on Tuesday.

The star receiver duo has missed each of the last two games with undisclosed injuries. Coach Lincoln Riley has said since Addison was injured in the Utah game there’s nothing of long-term worry, so should he be expected to return to the field on Friday against Colorado?

Consider him day-to-day, along with Williams.

“They’re better,” Riley said. “They’re participating more. Neither one of them have been full participants, but they’re very, very close. I don’t know if I would for sure say yes, but we’re a lot closer to saying yes with several of those guys, which is good.”

Addison and Williams are the Trojan’s top two wideouts so far this season. They’ve combined for 65 receptions, 1,078 yards, and 11 touchdowns on the year.

Their absences have opened up opportunities for other receivers on the two-deep, and USC has been able to showcase its depth a bit.

Kyle Ford had six catches for 114 yards and a score in USC’s 45-37 win over Arizona. Tahj Washington has back-to-back 100-yard performances — seven for 118 and two scores against Arizona, then seven for 112 and a score in the 41-35 win over Cal. Michael Jackson III followed up a four-touch, 72-yard performance against Arizona with a six-touch, 134-yard, two-score game against Cal.

“I don’t think we’re surprised by how well he’s played, but it’s been good to see that after missing all that time, he’s mentally stayed into it,” Riley said of Jackson. “The one thing he’s really done a good job of, and sometimes young guys don’t do this as well at the beginning of their careers, is taking what you do on the practice field and that shows up (in games). He is the same player on Saturdays that he is out here. It sounds easy, it’s not easy.”

The offense hasn’t been the problem for USC of late, even without some key pieces of the operation. Perhaps USC is just trying to buy some time for their banged-up playmakers before a massive showdown with UCLA.

Riley was asked after last Saturday’s win if the Trojans try to save guys — something he suggested they did earlier this year on the offensive line — and said if Addison and Williams could have played, they would have.

“Oh, there’s no save. There’s zero save. If any of those guys could have played tonight, they would,” Riley sai after the Cal game. “They were medically not ready to go. We think we’re close to getting some of them back. We don’t hold back for anybody, that’s not our mentality here. If we’re playing Los Angeles Middle School next week, we’re going to try to have as many as we can.”
