Joel Klatt provided his take on the upcoming matchup between No. 5 Washington and No. 20 USC on The Joel Klatt Show, a game that can see USC put itself right back in the mix of things in the Pac-12 with a win.

“They’re sitting there still with only one loss in Pac-12 play with everything out in front of them,” Klatt said. “A win this weekend over Washington puts them right in the race for the No. 1 seed in the conference.”

Klatt then dove into the quarterback battle in this game between defending Heisman winner Caleb Williams of USC and current Heisman hopeful Michael Penix Jr of Washington.

“I hope we get one of those…Pat Mahomes-Baker Mayfield shootouts, remember that one with Texas Tech and Oklahoma?” Klatt said. “I want to see Williams and Penix Jr. basically have to answer each other on every possession. These two defenses have been struggling at best.”

Klatt is referencing the 2016 matchup between Tech and OU in which Patrick Mahomes’ Red Raiders and Baker Mayfield’s Oklahoma squad combined for over 1,700 yards of offense and 125 points. Mahomes and Baker combined for 1,279 passing yards and 14 total touchdowns between the two of them.

Kickoff on Saturday is set for 4:30 p.m. PT on ABC.
