ESPN's SP+ predicts the score of USC's game against Notre Dame
It has been a wildly successful debut season for Lincoln Riley at USC. The Trojans are sitting at 10-1, the best record heading into a regular-season finale since 2008. USC has five straight outings with at least 41 points and 500 yards of offense, and it is one of only two FBS teams to score at least 40 points nine times so far this season.
A win Saturday evening would also tie the program record for the most by a coach in a debut season at USC — joining Howard Jones in 1925 and John Robinson in 1976.
Bill Connelly’s SP+ sees the Trojans getting it done. The predictive model has USC beating Notre Dame 36-25.
It would be USC’s first win over a ranked Notre Dame team since 2009.
“They haven’t given up 400 yards in a game this year which is hard to do in college football,” Riley said of Notre Dame’s defense. “They’ve been good on third down. They’ve got good players at all levels. You can tell they’ve recruited there for many years, and they’ve built a talent base and that shows up. There’s a lot of talented guys on that field.
Since the surprise home loss to Stanford on Oct. 15, Navy is the only team to face Notre Dame’s defense and average at least 5 yards a play. In their last six games, the Irish defense is giving up just 17.8 points a game.
But they have yet to face an offense like USC’s.
Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. PT on ABC.
