Caleb Williams praises work of freshman LB, confidence to 'come talk trash to me'
Caleb Williams loves what he has gotten to see out of freshman linebacker Tackett Curtis. The young defender has earned a number of high marks since stepping on campus, and Williams recently talked about the work and confidence of Curtis.
Speaking with the media, Williams said Curtis has “been tremendous” in all facets since joining the program. That spans his work in the weight room, academically and as a teammate.
“Tackett’s been great, ever since he’s been here. Whether it’s the weight room, whether it’s him being with us in the locker room just being brothers, whether it’s academics, whether it’s him out there asking on the field making plays, he’s been tremendous,” said Williams via Luca Evans.
Williams went on to explain Curtis has proven himself as a teammate, and with that Curtis’ confidence has grown. That confidence has grown so much he’s even talked a bit of trash toward Williams on the field.
“When he got here it was more kind of like ‘Ooo,’ as a freshman coming in… He’s proven himself to us as teammates,” Williams said. “Actually getting out there to play with him and him now having a lot more confidence to go out there and make some plays and come to talk trash to me, it makes it a little more fun for me.”
Curtis was among the more heralded prospects in USC’s 2023 recruiting class. He was rated as a 4-star LB and the 108th recruit nationally per the 247 Sports Composite, and Curtis maintains the potential to be a game-changing LB with the Trojans.
So far, he’s impressing everyone in the program, including the reigning Heisman winner.
