Bronny James was discharged from the hospital on Thursday. The USC freshman is home recovering after he was treated for sudden cardiac arrest at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, James arrived at the hospital earlier this week fully conscious, neurologically intact, and stable.

James’ consulting cardiologist at Cedars-Sinai said in a statement that his medical team is “encouraged by his response.” The statement also thanked the “swift and effective” response by USC’s medical staff after James reportedly collapsed Monday night while going during a workout at USC.

James’ father, NBA star LeBron James, also shared an update on Thursday, in which he said everyone is “doing great” and is “safe and healthy.” He also thanked everyone who has supported their family during this time.

“I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,” LeBron said. “We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!”

Bronny is preparing for his first season with the Trojans after signing with the program as a 5-star recruit out of the 2023 class.

It’s unclear how this week’s events will impact his availability during the upcoming 2023-24 season, but USC dealt with a similar health scare last year.

Then-freshman Vince Iwuchukwu suffered sudden cardiac arrest and collapsed during an informal team practice in July 2022, an incident that required him to remain hospitalized for several days. Upon his return, USC held him out of all basketball-related activities. He did not make his on-court debut until Jan. 12 in a home game against Colorado.

Iwuchukwu’s minutes were closely monitored throughout the season. He played five minutes in his debut and saw more than 15 minutes only four times in his 14 appearances.
