Fantasy breakout player in the new season: Amon-Ra St. Brown. You heard it here first.

Well, maybe not first. The second-year receiver for the Detroit Lions is a fan favorite this offseason after a record-setting first year with the organization. He was incredibly productive for the Lions last season after being taken in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, which came as a surprise to absolutely no one who followed his USC career.

The draft was a bit of a surprise, though. Or, as St. Brown described it on HBO’s Hard Knocks, a ‘shitty’ experience. And he’s using that to fuel him early in his career. St. Brown can tell you every receiver drafted ahead of him, and where they played their college ball.

The former USC product put up 2,270 yards and 16 touchdowns in three seasons with the Trojans. He put up a 1,000-yard campaign in 2019 and then hauled in seven touchdowns in six games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

As a rookie last season, he became the first rookie in NFL history to bring in at least eight receptions in five straight games. He closed out the year with six straight such games. In total, St. Brown had 90 receptions for 912 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie. He finished fifth among all rookies in receiving yards, third in targets, and second in receptions.

Sounds like he’s hungry to continue proving himself.
