UCLA star Jaime Jaquez jr. was named a finalist for the 2023 Julius Erving Award Wednesday, presented to the top small forward in college basketball.

Jaquez cracked the list that also includes Alabama’s Brandon Miller, Kansas’ Jalen Wilson, Kansas State’s Keyontae Johnson and Gonzaga’s Julian Strawther.

What sets Jaquez apart?

That’s a strong group of basketball players to outdo for the award, to put it simply.

But Jaquez is right up there in contention for the award, too. He’s an excellent shooter, plays tight defense and, at just 6-foot-7, might be UCLA’s top rebounder. He’ nearly averaging a double-double per game as a small forward, adding 2.4 assists per game as well.

The award will be presented on a date to be determined.
