UCLA softball jumps Oklahoma to earn No. 1 spot in national poll
UCLA softball is the No. 1 team in the country.
The Bruins surpassed Oklahoma this week after going undefeated at the Clearwater Invitational. UCLA is 12-0 on the year and has wins over highly-ranked programs like Florida State and Alabama.
UCLA’s big weekend came at a great time. Oklahoma dropped a game at Baylor on Sunday, clearing the way for a new No. 1.

Maya Brady has been UCLA’s best player to start the season. Brady already has 5 homers on the year and is hitting .568. However, it’s a deep lineup overall — 4 UCLA players (min. 30 at bats) currently boast an OPS over 1.000.
In the circle, UCLA has been led by Brooke Yanez and Megan Faraimo. That duo has allowed a total of 9 earned runs so far this season despite combining for 60.2 innings in the circle.
UCLA’s tough nonconference schedule is about to get a lot tougher. The Bruins will head to the Mary Nutter this week where it will face a number of top teams, including Oklahoma. They face the Sooners on Sunday — the final contest of the 6-game event.
