UCLA reportedly set to hire new QB coach with ties to the Big Ten
UCLA is expected to hire Arkon offensive coordinator Billy Fessler as its next quarterbacks coach, according to a report.
That news was first reported by FootballScoop on Wednesday afternoon. Fessler has deep ties to the Big Ten and should help UCLA’s staff as it prepares to move to that conference in 2024. Fessler played at Penn State and previously served as a graduate assistant at Ohio State.
Fessler replaces Ryan Gunderson, who left UCLA for the offensive coordinator role at Oregon State earlier this offseason.
Fessler, 28, has been a full-time assistant for just 2 seasons. He was Joe Moorhead’s offensive coordinator at Akron this past season. He played for Penn State from 2014-17 but rarely saw game time. He completed 1-of-2 passes during his collegiate career.
UCLA is expected to have Ethan Garbers as its starting quarterback in 2024. Garbers started several games for UCLA this season and led the Bruins to a comeback win over Boise State in their bowl game.
