UCLA secured its quarterback future on Monday.

Detroit (Mich.) King 5-star quarterback Dante Moore announced his commitment to the Bruins on social media Monday morning in a seismic recruiting win for coach Chip Kelly. Moore is one of the very best prospects in the country out of the 2023 class, and gives UCLA a seamless transition from five-year starter Dorian Thompson-Robinson to the 5-star freshman.

Moore’s commitment to the Bruins comes after more than five months of being a verbal commit to the Ducks. During that time, rumors ran wild that the Detroit star might flip and stay in-state with Michigan State. UCLA loomed on the periphery, but started to feel like a very serious threat last week when it was able to bring Moore to Westwood for an official visit.

The Bruins received a transfer portal commitment from former Kent State starter Collin Schlee over the weekend, leading many to wonder what impact, if any, that would have on Moore’s recruitment.

As it turns out, the impact was minimal.

With Bo Nix announcing his return to Oregon on Sunday, Moore seemingly had his choice made easier. At Oregon, he’d surely sit behind Nix for another year before getting the chance to battle for the starting job. At UCLA, Moore and Schlee will head into the offseason in their own battle, giving the blue-chip prospect a chance to start right away.

That’s what he did at King, and his team enjoyed roaring success throughout his four years.

Moore led the Crusaders to three state title game appearances, winning back-to-back as a junior and senior. During that time, he passed for 9,880 yards and 135 touchdowns with just 20 interceptions. Through his sophomore and senior years, he only threw nine total interceptions (after 11 as a freshman).

As a junior, Moore exploded, passing for 3,047 yards and 40 touchdowns en route to a state title and the MaxPreps Michigan High School Player of the Year award.

A 6-foot-3, 210-pound college-ready quarterback, Moore ranks as the 11th-best prospect in the country for the 2023 class, according to the industry-generated 247 Composite. That composite also ranks him as the fifth-best quarterback in the class and the top-ranked recruit from the state of Michigan. He is 247Sports’ No. 3 overall prospect.

According to 247Sports, Moore plans to sign on Wednesday when the Early Signing Period opens, participate in the All-American Bowl in January, and then head to campus as an early enrollee.

When he signs, he’ll become the most highly-rated quarterback that UCLA has landed in the modern recruiting services era, just edging out Josh Rosen, and the third highest-rated recruit ever.

The Bruins’ class stands at 14 known commitments and jumps to 22nd nationally with Moore’s commitment. You can view his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
