UCLA has officially signed 6-foot-6 guard Jan Vide, an international prospect who will join the program as a freshman for the 2023-24 season.

Vide comes to the Bruins from Ljubljana, Slovenia. Last month, he was honored as the MVP of the 2023 Adidas Next Generation Tournament Lithuania, where he averaged 19.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists a game.

“Jan is a lead guard with great size, standing at 6-foot-6, and he has shown that he can handle the ball and excel in the pick and roll at a very high level,” coach Mick Cronin said in a statement. “He’s been very well-known and highly regarded on the international basketball scene, having won multiple awards in European competition. Jan brings great toughness and talent to the table. He is a great young man with a tremendous future. He’s going to be able to play multiple positions for us. Certainly, he can help us score the ball and can create for others. We are very excited that Jan has chosen to come to Westwood and be a Bruin.”

Vide put up 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in his team’s championship win at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament in May.

He also competed for Slovenia at the 2022 U17 FIBA World Cup in Spain, where he averaged 20.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists a game. In 2021, he averaged 27 points, 5.6 boards, and 4.2 assists in five games for Slovenia at the FIBA U16 Challengers event.

Vide joins a 2023 signing class that also features French international Ilane Fibleuil as well as 4-star guard Sebastian Mack, 4-star forward Devin Williams, and 4-star forward Brandon Williams. The Bruins also landed a transfer commitment from former Utah guard Lazar Stefanovic.

Cronin has to rebuild his rotation next season after losing each of his top five scorers from the 2022-23 campaign. Tyger Campbell, Amari Bailey, Jaylen Clark, David Singleton, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. all need replacing.
