Greg McElroy believes UCLA is one of the more overlooked teams in the Pac-12. Teams like USC, Utah, Oregon and Washington are more top of mind for fans and media this summer.

McElroy warns to not sleep on the Bruins, but also said he’s not yet convinced they can run the ball like they did last year. And while Dorian Thompson-Robinson had an up and down season, McElroy wonders if the Bruins can replace his production with either Kent State transfer Collin Schlee, or freshman Dante Moore.

J. Michael Sturdivant and Carson Steele are also playmakers to be aware of entering the season.

“Either way, you’re looking at a team that’s going to be able to run the football,” McElroy said.

One position he’s concerned about is offensive line, a position of strength in recent years.

On defense, it’s a bend-but-don’t-break mentality as there are several players who are solid, but not spectacular in McElroy’s eyes. McElroy pointed out that UCLA last season was the only FBS team to not allow a play over 50 yards.

“I think UCLA, pretty good pieces on both sides of the ball, the one question mark being the offensive line, but with the scheme they run, I think that group has a chance to be very good,” he said.
