Ethan Garbers took back over at quarterback for the UCLA Bruins, who jumped out to a 35-point lead on the road against Stanford and went on to win 42-7.

Garbers started the season as the top quarterback in the room for the Bruins, but he was quickly replaced with freshman Dante Moore. Two losses in three weeks and six combined interceptions forced coach Chip Kelly’s hand and UCLA made a move back to Garbers, who hadn’t appeared in either of the team’s last two games.

UCLA posted 503 yards of offense in what was the best offensive day since the Sept. 16 win over NC Central.

It wasn’t all on Garbers, either. Carson Steele ran for three touchdowns. J.Michael Sturdivant brought in five catches for 54 yards and a score. The defense produced four sacks, seven tackles for loss, and two turnovers.

Stanford was held under 300 yards of offense and went just 1-for-11 on third downs.

A week after falling into a huge first-half hole against Colorado, Stanford did more of the same against UCLA. It trailed 21-0 at the halftime break. Last Friday, Stanford clawed back from a 29-0 halftime deficit to win in overtime. This week, though, the second-half offense was a mess.

Stanford turned it over on downs four times in the second half. Ashton Daniels also threw a fourth-quarter interception in the loss.

UCLA (5-2, 2-2 Pac-12) hosts Colorado next Saturday.

Stanford (2-5, 1-4 Pac-12) hosts Washington.
