Dorian Thompson-Robinson will play his fifth and final game against USC on Saturday at the Rose Bowl. The matchup will carry Pac-12 title implications, it’ll carry College Football Playoff implications for the Trojans, and it’ll carry a ton of animosity on both sides of the field.

“Obviously we hate those guys across town, there’s a bitter feeling with those guys,” the UCLA quarterback said Monday.

Last year, UCLA scored a record 62 points in a beatdown of the Trojans at the L.A. Coliseum. Thompson-Robinson was magical in the performance, hurdling defenders and signing a hat for a USC fan after a touchdown. But DTR certainly still remembers the bitter feelings of the year prior, when USC scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally from a 12-point deficit to win at the Rose Bowl.

“I remember it clear as day, cussing at us, flipping us off, as disrespectful as you can get,” Thompson-Robinson said. “So we’ve got to go out there on Saturday and do the best we can to win this game.”

The Bruins were stunned over the weekend by Arizona — a 34-28 loss at home that few saw coming. Thompson-Robinson and his UCLA teammates had eyes for the CFP themselves, but a second loss on the season dashed those hopes.

That result needs to be put out of mind quickly, though. With wins over Washington and Utah already on the year, UCLA would take a massive step closer to Las Vegas if it were to beat the Trojans on Saturday. All that would stand between DTR and his first Pac-12 title game would be a Cal team that has lost six straight.

As far as motivation goes, there’s plenty of it even before you get to USC.

But you can’t forget about USC.

Thompson-Robinson is 1-2 against USC as the Bruins’ full-time quarterback. (He says he technically started the 2018 game but Wilton Speight was the only one to attempt a pass that day, DTR had just a single rushing attempt.) Winning each of his last two showdowns with the crosstown rival would certainly be a memorable way to end his career in Westwood. And after last year’s blowout, Thompson-Robinson wants more.

“We want to be even better, we want to break 60 (points) and all that stuff,” he said. “We’re trying to improve on everything we’ve done this year.

“When we see each other face-to-face, there’s going to be some words and some actions thrown across.”

Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT on FOX.
