Chip Kelly reveals his favorite Pac-12 stadiums to coach in
Chip Kelly has spent a solid portion of his coaching career in the Pac-12. Over that time, he’s developed a fondness for some of the venues across the conference.
At his Wednesday press conference, Kelly was asked about his favorite Pac-12 venues with the league as we know it about to conclude at season’s end. He shouted out Oregon’s Autzen Stadium for obvious reasons and also acknowledged a rival of the Ducks for a great home atmosphere.
“I love Autzen, obviously. That’s a truly special place in this league. But I really loved playing at Washington,” said Kelly. “But, we’re going to play at those again because we’re traveling together. The two that I enjoyed.”
Kelly spent 6 seasons at Oregon, first as an assistant and then as the head coach of the Ducks. He admitted Washington was a fun place to play because the fans of the Huskies always “brought it” to the rivalry matchup.
“Washington, I think maybe because of the rivalry they had with Oregon. When you went up there, they brought it, and that’s what I love about the Washington fans,” Kelly explained. “And then obviously the Oregon fans are special, so those are the two that I always enjoyed, but we’re going to play them.”
Kelly acknowledged the question but noted there isn’t a ton of sentimentality on his side due to the fact that Oregon and Washington will be making the move to the Big Ten with UCLA and USC.
“The sentimentality on that isn’t really thinking ‘We’re not going to be at Oregon, we’re not going to be at Washington.’ Either they’re going to come here or we’re going to go there, so that rivalry will still exist at least with 3 of the schools that we were in the conference with,” Kelly pointed out.
As for the 2024 season, the Bruins will face Oregon at home in September, but UCLA will travel to face Washington at Husky Stadium in November during Big Ten play.
