Chip Kelly is expected to remain at UCLA for the 2024 season following a 7-5 campaign. That’s after rumors swirled around the Bruin head coach’s job security for most of the month. Some fans aren’t happy about that, and they’ve had the floor in recent days.

Those who support Kelly are looking to cut through the noise.

Earlier this week, a fan paid $2,060 for a banner to be flown over campus with the message “Read the room–fire Chip Kelly.” This was in response to UCLA Athletic Director Martin Jarmond saying “read the room” after fans wanted Kelly fired following the Bruins’ 38-20 victory over USC on Nov. 18.

In response, someone created a banner to be flown over the school, this time displaying the message “Beat SC! Stick w/ Chip! Go Bruins and DTR!” The back-and-forth debate among UCLA’s fan base appears to be ongoing, but the athletic department seems to have settled on Kelly being its head football coach, at least for another season.

And, the fan also apparently wanted to give a shout out to current Cleveland Browns quarterback and former UCLA great Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who played under Kelly from 2018-22.

The 2023 campaign ended on a mostly sour note. UCLA lost three of its final four games, and although the USC result was a positive one for the Bruins, losses to Arizona, Arizona State, and Cal by double figures were not.
