Carson Steele spoke to the media on Sunday. The transfer RB discussed learning under a coach like Chip Kelly.

This year will be Steele’s first season with the Bruins. He transferred to the program from Ball State. Last season Steele racked up 1,556 yards rushing and 15 total touchdowns.

Steele admitted how hard it can be to learn from Kelly, but understands how much easier it is with how many signals the team has for certain types of plays. Steele noted that Kelly’s ability to draw something up quickly is why UCLA has had recent success.

“It’s a little difficult, I’m not gonna lie. Just being able to watch coach Kelly break down plays and stuff like that. Being able to think of something to correct something else and being able to put a piece in where something was missing. Just him being able to snap his fingers and do that right away. It’s hard to learn those plays, but it’s easy in way because we have all these signals. Him being able to do on demand that is the reason why UCLA has been successful.”

If Steele can put up similar numbers to his Ball State days, he will be a problem for opposing defenses.

The Bruins open the 2023 season against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 2. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.
