Stanford athletics officially took home the 2022-23 Learfield Directors’ Cup Tuesday, an honor given to the top athletics program in the country.

The Cardinal won the award over Texas, which had won the 2 prior cups. Prior to that, Stanford had won an incredible 25 straight.

It’s hard not to think of Stanford baseball’s win over Texas as a potential deciding factor here, especially given the timing. The Cardinal advanced to the College World Series over Texas in nightmare fashion (for Texas fans, anyway).

Texas had a chance to get out of the inning with a routine pop-up. Instead, the Longhorns outfield lost sight of the ball in the lights, allowing the winning run to come home for the Cardinal.

USC made the top 5 in the final results, with Texas 2nd and Ohio State 3rd.
