Stanford point guard Isa Silva announced Tuesday that he would be entering the transfer portal after 2 years with the Cardinal. Silva, who was a rotational player for the Cardinal last season, appeared in all but 1 of Stanford’s games in 2023.

With junior guard Michael O’Connell slated to likely return for Stanford next season, expect Silva to transfer to a mid-major conference where more minutes are readily available. Silva, who hails from Sacramento, could be a strong addition on one of these programs.

Silva averaged just 3 points and 1 assist per game last year, but had a few very strong games in Pac-12 play. He totaled 12 points in a loss to Cal and 11 points in another loss to Utah.

Stanford tournament woes

Stanford is in a bit of a rough spot these days. The Cardinal have not made the NCAA Tournament since 2014, with only 2 winning seasons in the past 8 years.

They made the Sweet 16 in 2014 under Johnny Dawkins, beating New Mexico State and Kansas in a surprise run as a 10-seed. It’s their only time making the tournament in the past 15 years, dating to 2008.
