Stanford finds new head coach to replace David Shaw, per report
Stanford is staying in the state of California to find its new head coach after David Shaw stepped down following a disappointing 2022 season.
Per Stewart Mandel of The Athletic, the Cardinal are hiring a new coach from the FCS ranks after a fantastic season.
Mandel tweeted on Saturday morning that Sacramento State’s Troy Taylor would be the new head coach of the Stanford program after leading his team to an undefeated regular season in 2022:

Taylor led Sacramento St to its first undefeated regular season before losing in the FCS quarterfinals last night.
Taylor succeeds David Shaw, who stepped down last month.

Taylor has some Pac-12 experience on his résumé, having most recently served as Utah’s offensive coordinator and QBs coach in 2017 and 2018 before taking the Sacramento State head coaching job in 2019.
Taylor went 30-8 in 3 years with the Hornets. There wasn’t a 2020 season for Sacramento State due to COVID-19. He made the FCS Playoffs all 3 years, losing in the second round twice before falling in the quarterfinals this season.
How will Taylor fare at Stanford? That remains to be seen, but it seems the Cardinal like the program he built in Sacramento.
