USC-Cal game initially delayed because of on-field protesters
The start of the USC-Cal football game Saturday afternoon in Berkeley was delayed because of a group of UC Berkeley students who locked arms and sat on the Cal logo at midfield in protest.
The group appeared to be protesting the suspension of a Cal faculty member. Students on the field wore shirts that read “Justice 4 Ivonne” in support of a professor who is currently on paid administrative leave.
The game has since started. Police told The OC Register’s Luca Evans the protestors were being taken to jail.

In August, a group of Cal students marched on California Hall demanding the reinstatement of UC Berkeley colonial studies professor Ivonne del Valle.
The professor has reportedly been on leave since 2019 after an investigation by the school found del Valle had repeatedly harassed, stalked, and retaliated against Joshua Clover, an English and Comparative Literature professor at UC Davis, and then violated orders not to contact him.
Cal is hosting USC looking to get back to .500 on the season. The Bears move to the ACC next year.
