Sports business insiders outline how the Pac-12 misread the media marketplace
Sports business insiders have had a busy couple of weeks after all of the realignment in college athletics.
John Ourand and Andrew Marchand of the “Ourand and Marchand Sports Media Podcast” recently opined on the changing landscape of college sports.
The duo discussed the seemingly-inevitable dissolution of the Pac-12 conference.
“The Pac-12 has a certain arrogance about themselves,” Ourand said. “They felt like they needed to be a part of the SEC money, the Big Ten money.”

Per reports, the Pac-12 power brokers were negotiating a deal with Apple TV that would have been similar to the deal Major League Soccer has. The deal reportedly would have guaranteed yearly payouts of between $23-25 million for each school.
Marchand detailed how the massive deals signed by the Big 12 and Big Ten left the Pac-12 overvaluing itself.
“All of the money drained out, and now these networks feel like they don’t have money just to spend,” he said.
