In the two weeks since the NCAA approved the implementation of transfer portal windows for all sports, 19 Division I football players have been entered into the portal.

Earlier this week, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz, the NCAA informed schools to withdraw the entries of all fall sport student-athletes (including football) that have been created since the NCAA Board of Directors approved the concept back on Aug. 31.

The NCAA Division I council will reportedly hold a meeting next week to determine whether graduate transfers should be exempt from those same portal windows.

For everyone else, the announcement from the NCAA’s board at the end of August was expected to halt in-season portal activity immediately. It didn’t. But, according to Zenitz, of the 19 players who submitted their names, nine of them had their names removed before 2 p.m. PT on Wednesday.

According to Zenitz, the NCAA informed schools that have entered fall sport athletes into the portal since windows were implemented that they won’t face ramifications for doing so, but they are expected to adhere to the appropriate windows going forward.

The first portal window for football opens on Dec. 5, one day after the College Football Playoff field is revealed, and runs for 45 days. The second window opens from May 1-15.
