Pac-12 title game to utilize 'floating' dates in 2023, per report
The Pac-12 championship game has traditionally been played on Friday over the course of its existence. That could change during the 2023 season.
Per a report from John Canzano, the Pac-12 schedule for the 2023 football season has been approved and will be fully announced sometime this week. One interesting tidbit of that reported schedule is the inclusion of floating dates for the league’s championship game.
According to Canzano, the Pac-12 Championship Game will be played either on Friday, Dec. 1 or Saturday, Dec. 2 in Las Vegas. It is not initially clear when or how the final date for the title game would be determined.
The Pac-12 has traditionally occupied the Friday night time slot for the title game as the first Power 5 conference to play during Championship Weekend. The Big 12, SEC, B1G and ACC have traditionally played title games on Saturday.
We will see if the Pac-12 enters the Saturday schedule or opts to remain on Friday for 2023. Utah captured its second straight Pac-12 title in the 2022 championship game, taking down USC during Lincoln Riley’s first season with the Trojans.
