The Pac-12 Thursday released a statement on the Colorado Board of Regents’ unanimous decision to move back to the Big 12.

The conference has taken a bit of beating in recent years. USC and UCLA kicked things off by announcing their intentions to move to the B1G, and now Colorado’s departure leaves the conference with just 9 teams following the 2023 season.

The Pac-12 has also yet to announce a media rights deal, but noted in Thursday’s statement that once a deal has been finalized the conference will “embrace expansion opportunities.”

The Big 12 has also expressed interest in expanding even further, potentially from the Pac-12. The conference has done little to prove its stability (hence, Colorado’s departure) and other programs are likely to explore options in the coming months.

Truly, the Pac-12 finds itself in a rough spot at the end of July.
