Pac-12 expansion rumors: Boise State reportedly being kept at 'arm's length' in expansion talks
Pac-12 expansion rumors are heating up.
According to a report from college football insider John Canzano, Boise State is being kept at “arm’s length” with regards to Pac-12 expansion discussions.
The league, which is currently in negotiations for its next TV deal, is “far more interested” in SMU and San Diego State, per Canzano.
I am told that the Pac-12 has kept Boise State at "arm's length" in recent months per a source. Pac-12 has had very limited contact with the school.
Conference appears far more interested in SMU, San Diego State, and some others.

Coming out of the 2000’s, Boise State seemed well-positioned to eventually make the jump to a Power 5 league. But the Broncos have fallen from their highs under Chris Petersen, as they have lost multiple games for 11 straight years. Prior to that streak, Boise State had 1 or 0 losses in 4 straight campaigns from 2008-11.
Boise State’s lack of dominance in the Mountain West combined with its underwhelming TV market is likely what has the Pac-12 looking elsewhere. Both SMU and San Diego State are located near major US cities.
The Pac-12 has not officially decided on whether or not it will expand, but decisions could come in the coming weeks and months.
