Notre Dame AD laments Cal and Stanford being ‘abandoned’ in realignment
Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick is advocating for Stanford and Cal to be accepted into the ACC. The two schools, along with Oregon State and Washington State, are the only schools remaining in the Pac-12 conference.
Why would the Notre Dame AD care about the plight of two west coast schools? According to ESPN’s Heather Dinich, it’s due to the academic quality of the schools.
ND AD Jack Swarbrick told me the reason they advocated for Cal and Stanford was because “The notion that two of the very best academic institutions in the world who also play D1 sports could be abandoned in this latest chapter of realignment is an indictment of college athletics. https://t.co/b3rhc6Bd2A

Notre Dame is obviously another school that is renowned for its academics, so it makes sense that Swarbrick has a soft spot for the two schools.
It is yet to be seen what will come of the remaining Pac-12 teams.
