The Washington Huskies were big USC fans Friday night during the Pac-12 Championship. Had the Trojans beaten the Utes, Washington likely would have gone to the Rose Bowl.

Instead, it’ll be Utah — the back-to-back champs of the Pac-12 — representing the conference in The Granddaddy of Them All once again. The Utes will face Penn State. USC will head to the Cotton Bowl to face AAC champion Tulane.

Washington will face Texas in the Alamo Bowl. Official bowl matchups will be announced on ESPN later Sunday afternoon.

The Cotton Bowl will be played on Monday, Jan. 2, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas at 10 a.m. PT on ESPN. It will feature just the fourth all-time meeting between USC and Tulane and the first since 1946.

The Green Wave (11-2, 7-1 AAC) blasted UCF on Saturday 45-28 to claim the program’s first conference championship since 1998 when it was a member of the Conference USA. In the win over UCF, Tulane racked up 649 yards of offense, its second-best offensive day since that 1998 season, according to ESPN Stats & Info. It was the fifth time this season Tulane has scored 40 points or more.

The Rose Bowl will also be played on Jan. 2 in Pasadena at 2 p.m. PT on ESPN. Utah has never faced Penn State before. The Nittany Lions went 10-2 this season, with their only losses coming to Michigan on the road and Ohio State at home. Both the Wolverines and the Buckeyes made it into the College Football Playoff.

The Utes will hope to avenge last year’s heartbreaking loss to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. That matchup produced one of the best entries in the storied game’s history, as Utah went back and forth with the Buckeyes in a wild, 48-45 game. Utah quarterback Cameron Rising was injured late in the game and forced to the sideline. He’ll likely be hoping for a better ending this time around.
