Kirk Herbstreit shares what he's looking for in Oregon-Washington matchup
Kirk Herbstreit joined The Pat McAfee Show on Friday to talk about the much-anticipated Oregon-Washington matchup. The veteran analyst joined the show live from Seattle.
Herbstreit said that while others are focused on the high-powered offenses in this game, he’s looking toward the defensive side of the ball.
“I want to see which defense can make some plays,” Herbstreit said. “Sometimes you get hyped up for a game like this and it’s 13-10 at half. So I think the defenses will play a lot better than people are expecting.”
As Herbstreit mentioned, defense will be the key in this game. These are 2 of the most explosive offenses in the nation, with the Ducks and Huskies have the No. 2 and No. 3 scoring offenses respectively.
When it comes to total defense, the Ducks have the edge. The Ducks have the No. 6 total defense in the nation while the Huskies are down at No. 64. The Huskies will have a significant home-field advantage, however, so the game could come down to one stop.
Herbstreit and McAfee also discussed the impressive job Kalen DeBoer has done at the helm for Washington. DeBoer’s Huskies won 10 games last season and appear on the way to reaching that mark again in 2023.
The winner of this matchup will remain perfect on the season and stay in position to possibly reach the College Football Playoff.
The Huskies and Ducks will kick off from Seattle at 12:30 p.m. PT.
