Following departures to the Big Ten and Big 12, 4 schools in the Pac-12 have uncertain futures. The AAC, recognized as a Group of 5 conference, is interested in adding remaining Pac-12 members Cal, Oregon State, Stanford and Washington State, according to Eric Prisbell of On3.

Following Colorado’s departure for the Big 12, the 9 Pac-12 schools were presented with details of a media rights deal with Apple’s streaming platform. Five of the 9 schools ultimately decided to go to the Big Ten and Big 12 for revenue reasons.

“We would be a good landing spot for those schools given our existing ESPN deal, which has a strong linear component, along with our major cities and institutional profiles,” an AAC source told Prisbell.

The AAC would expand to 18 members if it added the “Pac-4.” Its last round of expansion included former Conference USA members Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, UAB, North Texas, UTSA and Rice.

The AAC may not get the chance to add all 4 schools. The ACC has reportedly started the vetting process to add Cal and Stanford.
