Dan Mullen went on “The Matt Barrie Show” recently to discuss a number of storylines entering the 2023 season. That appearance included Mullen and Matt Barrie chatting about which league could be the most compelling this fall.

While the recent attention on the Pac-12 has been about the realignment saga that left the league hanging by a thread, Mullen said he’s most excited to watch the Pac-12 this season. Mullen tabbed USC as a legitimate College Football Playoff contender but cited the depth of the league that could give the Trojans fits.

“I’m telling you what, there is not a league I am more excited to watch this year than the Pac-12. I don’t know where I’m gonna watch it, luckily you and I will be spending Saturdays together so we can get the Pac-12 Network satellite feed,” Mullen joked in his comments.

“…I think USC is a legitimate Playoff contender. They’ve got to go deal with Utah who’s the two-time (defending champ). Then they’ve got to deal with Oregon and Washington who are two explosive teams with veteran QBs and playmakers all over the place, and don’t forget about Oregon State… Better than all of that, they all play each other.”

Mullen admitted it is indeed a bit ironic with the league likely to collapse, but the 2023 season and swan song for the Pac-12 could be one of the conference’s most exciting years of football:

“It is going to be the most entertaining conference in its final year. The swansong of 100 years of Pac-12 football could be one of the most exciting years in the league,” explained Mullen.
