College Football Playoff: Schedule, show times for CFP rankings reveal
College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday night for the first time this season.
ESPN will host a weekly show every Tuesday night through the end of the regular season updating the CFP rankings, speaking with members of the CFP selection committee, and debating who’s in and who’s outside the top four. There will be plenty to discuss this week.
The full show schedule for the rest of the year is below:
- CFP rankings release No. 1 — Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 4-5 p.m. PT
- CFP rankings release No. 2 — Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 4-5 p.m. PT
- CFP rankings release No. 3 — Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 6-6:30 p.m. PT (approximate)
- CFP rankings release No. 4 — Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 4-5 p.m. PT
- CFP rankings release No. 5 — Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 4-4:30 p.m. PT
- College Football Playoff Selection Sunday — Sunday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. PT
(The third rankings reveal on Nov. 14 is scheduled to take place after the first game of a double-header at the State Farm Champions Classic. The approximate start time for the show is 9 p.m. ET.)
In the Pac-12, two teams are expected to land in the top 10. Where does Washington debut in the initial rankings? And how close behind it is Oregon? Depending on where the Ducks land, Washington could have one of the very best wins of any team this season.
The Huskies beat the Ducks in Seattle, 36-33, on Oct. 14. Since, Washington has won each of its two games but it hasn’t done so in convincing fashion. Still, the Ducks went on the road to Utah in Week 9 and blasted the Utes. As Oregon continues to rise, that win will look better and better for UW.
So does the committee place Washington inside the top four of its initial rankings? Or does Washington wind up at No. 5, right where it sits in the AP poll? Of course, the committee could choose to do its own thing, knock UW for not passing the “eye test” in recent weeks, and slot Oregon ahead of the Huskies.
It will also be important to see which other Pac-12 teams land in the first College Football Playoff rankings. Aside from the two top-10 squads, there are four other Pac-12 teams in this week’s AP poll. Will all four land in the CFP rankings? And will they stay? Either UW or Oregon could finish the season with upwards of four wins over CFP Top 25 teams.
At this point in the year, it’s all about résumé building.
