Brett McMurphy, CFB insider, details why Oregon and Washington are unlikely to move to Big 12
Brett McMurphy has been tracking the conference realignment era of college football, including the current cycle that was sparked by Colorado’s decision to depart the Pac-12 and rejoin the Big 12.
By most accounts, the current period of realignment is likely far from finished. Other Pac-12 programs could potentially follow Colorado’s move to the Big 12 while the Pac-12 might look to expand with Colorado, UCLA and USC all leaving in 2024.
In a recent interview, McMurphy reported on what he believes would be a dream scenario for the Big 12. He expects the league would love to add the four corner schools in Arizona, Arizona State and Utah to go with Colorado.
McMurphy explained the Big 12 would certainly be thrilled to add Oregon and Washington, but there is a concern those programs are ultimately hoping for a phone call from the Big Ten:
“People are like ‘Why don’t the Big 12 go after Oregon and Washington?’ I think they’d love to have Oregon and Washington as part of the Big 12, except they realize that whenever Oregon and Washington get that Big Ten invite, they’re gone,” said McMurphy on 365 Sports. “So do you really want to bring a team to your conference that the minute they get in your conference is kind of going to be waiting for the other date to the dance so they can move?”
Per @Brett_McMurphy, the #Big12‘s dream scenario would be adding the four corner schools: Colorado, Arizona, Utah and Arizona State🗺️‼️
As for #Oregon🦆 and #Washington🐺, there’s a legitimate concern both schools would have their eyes on the #Big10 from the onset if they were… pic.twitter.com/HSeQOXxceT
