Arizona State joins Arizona and UCLA as Pac-12 reps in the latest AP Top 25
Arizona State, winners of nine straight, entered the AP Top 25 on Monday to give the Pac-12 conference three representatives in the latest media poll.
The Sun Devils checked in at No. 25 after receiving just three votes a week ago. ASU is 11-1 on the season, matching the best start the program has enjoyed through 12 games since the start of the 2017-18 campaign. ASU has also won its first two Pac-12 games for the first time since 2012-13.
Pretty good week for #Pac12MBB. 😎

ASU beat Creighton in Las Vegas last Monday, 73-71. It followed that win up with a 91-67 drubbing of San Diego on Sunday.
“I think our wins speak for themselves,” head coach Bobby Hurley said Sunday. “We’re 11-1. We’ve won on the road in Colorado. We’ve won Creighton and Michigan on a neutral and VCU is a very good program. We’ve done what we should do and I think that should be rewarded at this point. Now, there is a lot more basketball to be played but I think as it stands right now, I think we’re a top-25 team.”
The Sun Devils have four players this season averaging at least 10 points. Three have scored at least 20 on multiple occasions: Desmond Cambridge Jr., Frankie Collins, and DJ Horne. Only one other school in the Pac-12 can say that. ASU also boasts a top-20 defense by KenPom’s adjusted defensive rating metric (opponent-adjusted points per 100 possessions).
ASU’s in-state foils, the Arizona Wildcats, are the Pac-12’s highest-ranked rep. Coach Tommy Lloyd’s group is 10-1 after taking down No. 6 Tennessee at home Saturday evening. They’re led by the best offense in all of college basketball.
Arizona moved up four spots in the latest poll to No. 5. They sit behind Purdue, UConn, Houston, and Kansas.
UCLA, after going on the road to take down Maryland 87-60 and outlast Kentucky 63-53, jumped up to No. 13 in the latest poll. It’s a three-spot jump for the Bruins, who are also sporting one of the best offenses in college basketball. UCLA ranks third nationally in KenPom’s adjusted offensive rating.
Arizona hosts Montana State on Tuesday night and then Morgan State on Thursday night. UCLA hosts UC Davis on Wednesday. ASU plays host to San Francisco that same night as teams close out the non-conference slate before the holiday break.
