Trent Bray will be saving Oregon State some money with his salary as head coach of the program.

Bray will be paid $2 million each year for 5 years and will have the same assistant pool that Jonathan Smith did of $4.85 million. This will save the program $2.85 million compared to when Smith was there.

For comparison, Smith’s extension with Oregon State after the 2022 season had him set to receive $30.6 million over the next 6 years.

Oregon State’s inside hire was the defensive coordinator on Smith’s staff for the last 2 seasons before being promoted to head coach.

Bray played for the Beavers in the early 2000s before heading to the coaching world.

His coaching career started at Arizona State as a graduate assistant in 2008. He was the program’s linebacker coach from 2010-2011 before returning to Corvallis as an assistant in 2012.

Bray had a brief stint with Nebraska from 2015-2017 before coming back to Corvallis for a 2nd stint as an assistant in 2018.

Smith left Oregon State to join Michigan State after leading the Beavers to an 8-4 record.
