Oregon State's Jack Colletto draws rave review from Washington coach
Oregon State boasts one of the most versatile and valuable players in the Pac-12 — Jack Colletto.
Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer came away from last Friday’s game against Oregon State incredibly impressed with the redshirt senior.
“Man, he is just, I don’t want to say reckless, but he just puts his body out there and just goes after you,” DeBoer said of Colletto. “I was so impressed watching film throughout the week of him bouncing off guys. There’s a combination of balance and physicality. A good all-around football player.”
Colletto’s impact on the 24-21 loss to UW was understated if you’re just looking at the box score — he had just two rushing attempts for 2 yards, a catch for 6 yards, and no tackles — but as has been the case throughout the season, he found a way to still make his presence felt.
He was stuffed on a fourth-and-2 attempt in the first quarter by a UW defense that sniffed out exactly what was coming. So, on third-and-2 from the red zone later in the game, Colletto lined up at quarterback before shifting out and giving way to tailback Deshaun Fenwick, who ran behind Colletto as his lead blocker for a 19-yard score.
And as the Beavers look to move on from a loss that officially ended their hopes for a Pac-12 title berth, Colletto is keeping the focus where it needs to be.
“We take pride in focusing on the process,” Colletto said this week, via BeaverBlitz. “If we won the game, and we’re 7-2, would we practice any different than us losing the game? If that’s the case, ultimately we’re letting circumstances dictate how we’re going to perform.
“I believe it’s a good life lesson that you shouldn’t let circumstances dictate how you’re going to approach situations.”
