Oregon State lands commitment from versatile 2023 defensive back
Ahead of this weekend’s regular-season finale against Oregon, the Oregon State Beavers got some great news to start the week on a high note.
Whitehouse (Texas) athlete Jermod McCoy announced his verbal commitment to the Beavers on Monday. A 5-foot-11 wideout/defensive back, McCoy chose the Beavers over Tulane, Air Force, Army, and a host of FCS offers. He was previously committed to Tulane but backed off that months-long pledge last Friday — one week after taking an official visit to Corvallis.

McCoy was mostly being recruited as a wideout, but according to BeaverBlitz’s Angie Machado, Oregon State is bringing him in to start on the defensive side of the ball. He saw limited snaps on defense as a junior, but saw extensive action in all three phases of the game as a senior.
He finished with 57 receptions for 784 yards (13.8 per catch) and eight touchdowns on offense. On defense, he added 28 tackles and two interceptions. McCoy was also Whitehouse’s return man, averaging 25.2 yards per kickoff return (with one touchdown on 13 attempts) and 18.8 yards per punt return (nine attempts).
A three-sport athlete for his high school in Texas, McCoy ranks as the 250th prospect from the state and the 145th athlete in the 2023 class, according to the 247Composite.
