Jonathan Smith apologized for a bizarre signal the coach used on the sideline against Utah.

The coach gestured to his chest area and made a certain motion that implied he wanted his team to milk the clock.

The Beavers’ coach addressed the incident with the media on Monday.

Smith mentioned that he noticed how strange the signal looked when he was watching the film and apologized for the signal.

“I won’t be using that signal again,” Smith declared.

Smith also admitted that he was using the incorrect signal and resorted to the “milking” signal as a last resort option.

“I’ve got to learn the signals because I’m actually not giving the correct signal offensively,” the coach explained.

The Beavers ended up getting an impressive win over the Utes in Week 5. The team pulled off a 21-7 win and improved to 1-1 in Pac-12 play.  The next test for Smith’s squad will be against the California Golden Bears in Week 6.
