Jonathan Smith, Mike Riley and Dennis Erickson are the 3 coaches to have guided Oregon State to 10 or more wins in a college football season. The Beavers, though, have never posted double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons. An ESPN analyst sees Smith’s 2023 squad making program history.

Tom Luginbill predicts OSU will win 10 or 11 games in 2023. Luginbill recently told Next Round Live that he likes the Beavers to pull off a couple of upsets this fall.

Oregon State went 10-3 in 2022, capping the season with a 30-3 blowout win over Florida in the Las Vegas Bowl. Smith’s 2022 squad was just the third team in program history to achieve 10 or more wins. Erickson’s Beavers posted an 11-1 record in 2000, winning the Fiesta Bowl. In 2006, Riley’s team picked up a 10th win in the Sun Bowl.

Entering 2023, Oregon State is ranked No. 18. The Beavers have a new QB1 in DJ Uiagalelei, a transfer from Clemson.

A former 5-star recruit, Uiagalelei was with the Tigers for 3 seasons. From 2020-22, he completed 515-of-861 passes (59.8%) for 5,681 yards with 36 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 1,913 snaps over 36 games (28 starts). He also logged 275 career carries for 913 yards and 15 touchdowns.

A 13-game starter in 2022, Uiagalelei completed 229-of-370 passes for career-highs of 2,521 yards and 22 touchdowns in 816 snaps. Clemson posted a 22-6 record with Uiagalelei as a starter, but he entered the NCAA transfer portal when it became clear that Dabo Swinney was moving on to Clade Klubnik as the Tigers’ QB1.
