Washington DB defends 2022 hit on Bo Nix, says Oregon fans 'complain about everything'
Washington Husky alum Alex Cook said during a radio hit this week his hit on Bo Nix in last year’s 37-34 win over the Ducks wasn’t dirty, but Oregon fans just complain about everything.
A senior and a captain on last year’s team, Cook is now with the New York Giants in the NFL. He joined a local radio station in Seattle this week in anticipation of Saturday’s top-10 clash between UW and Oregon and added a bit more fuel to the fire.
“What did you want me to do? I hit him as low as humanely possible. There was no other place on the body where I could hit him that would have made you feel any better,” Cook told 93.3 KJR’s Dave ‘Softy’ Mahler. “Just because he had to come out of the game for an injury, they considered it a dirty hit.
“That’s the thing about Oregon fans. When things don’t go their way, they cry and complain about everything and blame the world. That’s what you get.”

On a third-and-5 run late in the game against Washington last year, Nix took a major shot from Cook on a quarterback keeper that took his legs out from under him. Nix was forced off the field because of the injury with the Ducks holding a lead.
Ty Thompson replaced him on the next drive and Oregon ran the ball three consecutive times before facing a fourth-and-1. Oregon tried and failed to get the yard to gain, Washington took over, and kicked a field goal to go up 37-34.
Nix came back into the game for Oregon’s final possession, but he looked very clearly limited. Oregon’s attempt at a comeback fell flat and Washington left Autzen Stadium with an upset win over a top-10 Oregon squad.
Fans thought the hit from Cook was dirty. Oregon submitted the play to the Pac-12 and asked why targeting wasn’t called. Nix’s ankle limited him in the Utah game immediately after the UW loss.
Saturday’s game between the two rivals will see both teams meet at close to full strength. Nix and the Ducks will be seeking a bit of payback.
Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. PT on ABC.
