Noah Sewell and TJ Bass picked up preseason All-American recognition on Monday.

The Athletic announced its preseason First and Second Teams. Utah’s Clark Phillips III landed on the second-team defense while a pair of USC offensive players landed on each team. Oregon had the lone first-team defender with Sewell taking one of the three linebacker spots. Bass landed on the second-team offensive line.

Both Sewell and Bass are also preseason all-conference first-team picks in the Pac-12. They’re expected to help an Oregon team ranked 11th in the preseason AP Top 25 contend for another Pac-12 championship.

Sewell is the star of the Ducks’ defense and arguably one of the best off-ball linebackers in college football. A former 5-star recruit, Sewell has been a baller for Oregon since he stepped foot on campus as a true freshman in 2020. With 162 total tackles in the last two seasons, he’s led the defense in tackles both years. Sewell also has 15 tackles for loss and six sacks in 21 career appearances.

Bass is back for a fifth season of college ball. He was an all-conference honorable mention in 2020, his first year with the Ducks after two spent at Butte College. He was a first-team selection for the All-Pac-12 team in 2021. So far, he has drawn starts in every game over the past two seasons. Last year, he was the fifth-highest-graded blocker in the Pac-12, per PFF.

The Ducks open the season on Sept. 3 in Atlanta against the Georgia Bulldogs.
